Time Tracking & Billing

Timesheet

A record of hours worked, organised by project or task, typically over a week or pay period.

A timesheet is a document or record that shows how time was spent over a defined period — typically a day, week, or pay period. For employees, timesheets feed payroll. For freelancers and consultants, they support client billing and provide a paper trail for disputes.

A classic timesheet is a grid: days across the top, projects or tasks down the side, and hours at each intersection. Modern time tracking software generates timesheets automatically from timer data, eliminating the manual spreadsheet process.

Timesheets serve multiple purposes: billing (which hours to invoice), reporting (where time went across projects), and compliance (some industries require documented proof of hours for regulatory purposes). Freelancers often share timesheets with clients as backup for invoices.

The accuracy of a timesheet depends entirely on the quality of the underlying time data. If timers are started and stopped accurately, the timesheet is reliable. If hours are entered from memory at the end of the week, accuracy degrades significantly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to submit timesheets if I am a freelancer?

Freelancers are not typically required to submit timesheets but sharing them with clients as invoice backup is good practice. Clients who review invoices carefully appreciate seeing the detail rather than just a total hours number.

How far back can I view timesheets in ClockMe?

ClockMe stores all time entries with no expiry. You can view and filter the Timesheet by any date range — going back to your first recorded entry.

Can I edit timesheet entries after the fact?

Yes. In ClockMe, any time entry can be edited — start time, end time, description, project assignment. This lets you correct timer inaccuracies or add entries you forgot to track in real time.
